Blessings for Braden

Welcome to our blog! Braden is a 2 year old little boy who has been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Nueroblastoma is a childhood cancer that is most often found in children under the age of 10. Our hope is that God will heal Braden completely and that his story will help others draw closer to Jesus.

GREAT news!

I got a call from the surgeon yesterday about the results on the pathology on Braden's tumor. The main mass in Braden's abdomen came back as ganglia neuroma which is a benign tumor!! PRAISE GOD! He took ten lymph nodes out of Braden's neck, and 7 out of the 10 came back as ganglia neuroblastoma which means that some parts still have neuroblastoma which is malignant. The other 3 lymphnodes are normal! In the pelvis it also shows ganglia neuroblastoma which again has malignant components. He said that the tumor board would meet next week and get back to us. He said that the hope would still be to watch it and hope that the other places will turn to ganglia neuroma as well. This is what our prayer will be. That God will continue to heal Braden until this thing is gone! Thank you for your continued prayers.

Jessica's post this morning 10-12

This morning I wake up feeling like a new woman, my stress has disappeared and I am thankful for what God has done in our little boy.  Everything has worked out in His plan.  Yesterday would have been a much more stressful day if Braden had had the surgery that we originally came for.  After having the planned CT on Tuesday, the big surgery was still a go.  I signed the contract and we were set.  On Tuesday when we met with the doctors my mom asked me to ask them for a PET scan.  The doctors thought it would be some good information and I am so thankful we did.  If we had not done the PET scan then Braden would have had that horrible surgery yesterday.  A PET can only be done every three months and I know that God's timing for this was perfect!  If we had asked for the PET when we came for our consult last month, we may not have had the same results.  I know that through all of the prayer warriors God has heard our prayers and has been healing B so that he did not have to have the big surgery.  When the surgeon went in yesterday, he said that Braden's tumor looked white in color which indicates protein and maturity indicating that his tumor is turning more benign.  He said that neuroblastoma looks more grey in color and jelly-like and Braden's was more solid.  We are praying that with future scans his tumor turns completely to ganglianeuroma, which is a completely benign tumor.  The doc said that he could live with it without a problem.  At the end of surgery when we thanked the doctor, he pointed up and said, "He is the one you need to thank."  I know God was in the operating room and has been with us each and every step of the way.  He has guided our path and everything has happened in His timing!  Braden did ok last night.  He woke up 4-5 times screaming in pain, mostly when he tries to pee.  They said that this is normal after having a cath.  We are going to try to get him up and walking a little later.

PET scan results and a new plan!

This is the day that the Lord has made!! I will rejoice and be glad in it!!! We got some answered prayers today! The PET scan came back with significantly lower levels indicating that Braden's tumor is turning more ganglia neuroma ( more benign) so surgery options have changed ! They are going to remove the lymphnodes in the neck and then take a small biopsy of the tumor in the abdomen. They feel that we can just watch it and follow up with scans. They said that due to the morbility of the other surgery, this would be a better approach considering they have seen improvements. Praise God! We are on cloud nine right now and we give all the praise to Him! Thank you Lord!!!!!

CT results 10-9

Braden's CT scan showed a little improvement!! PRAISE GOD!! We return at 10 am in the morning for B to be prep for the PET scan. This will give them more information on the tumor. He will be put to sleep for this scan as well. We will return on Thursday at 6 am to be prepped for surgery . Wow the day is approaching fast!!! The doc said there is some risk of nerve damage in the legs, feet and growin, also there could be nerve damage in the eye and arm when they remove the lymphnodes in his neck. We are praying for no nerve damage and a successful surgery!

Jessica's Post, Tuesday 10-9

Braden is now awake and eating. We are now waiting to talk with the surgeon about the upcoming surgery. Thank u for all the prayers! We are definitely feeling them. I have been calm and collected today which is very unlike me on the days when Braden has been put to sleep. God is good!

They're in New York, ready to begin the week.

We will arrive at Sloan Kettering in the morning at 9:30am for Braden to start drinking contrast for his CT scan. He will be sedated and have his CT at 10:30am. He will then have his bone marrow biopsy at 1pm. They said this should only take 20 min and then when he wakes up we should be able to return to the Ronald McDonald house for one last night before being admited for the big surgery. Today we explored the city and tonight Braden has been running around like a crazy man, but we are letting him because we know tomorrow he will be very sore. Please continue to pray for our little one'

They're heading to NYC for Surgery!

Jessica's Facebook Post:
Braden has been scheduled to have surgery in NYC at Memorial Sloan Kettering on October 11th. This is a little sooner than we had originally thought. Dr. Laquaglia is a world renowned surgeon and we feel confident that with God's help, he will be able to remove Braden's tumor and our baby will be healed. We will head up to NYC the weekend of Oct. 6th. We will need to be at the hospital the Mon...
day and Tuesday before surgery for pre-op stuff and a bone Marrow biopsy which he will be put to sleep for. We will be admited on Wednesday before surgery and then he will have surgery on Thursday. I have been praying that God will be the hands of Braden's surgery team on that day. We are so blessed to have so many people praying for us. I ask that you continue to raise Braden up in Prayer. I knew that at some point we would have to jump a hurdle and things would get harder before getting easier. We have met that hurdle. I pray that Brandon and I and our entire family will have strength and peace about every decision that is being made. I feel God's prescence as I think about what lies ahead. I know he is here with me and will carry me along this journey. Braden is such a strong little boy and such an inspiration to me. I cannot wait for the story that he will have to share with others when he gets older. I know that he will be a testimate to God's unfailing love.

Jessica's Facebook Post 8-11

Brandon I have a lot of huge decissions to make since meeting with the oncologist on Thursday this week. We also met with the surgeon. The surgeon wants to go ahead and remove the lymphnode in Braden's neck, however this does not come without risks. Because the tumor is embeded behind the collar bone...
, it leads to nerves that are attached to Braden's arm. This could lead to nerve damage. There is also the risk of uncontrolled bleeding. Neuroblastoma is one of those tumors that can bleed really easily and it can be hard to stop. When we met with the oncologist, he said that we have two options to chose from. Either do 6 rounds of intense chemotherapy which would lead to stem cell transplant, more blood transfussions, more platlet transfussions and a very sick litte boy. He also said that he has lost patients due to the high doses of toxicity that it causes in your body. The other option we have is the wait and see what happens. We would follow up with scans every 3 months. The risk with this is that we are not sure if the cancer will spread somewhere else and if it went to his brain or lungs it would probably not be treatable. The other factor that we have to take into account is that, the oncologist is not certain the intense chemo will shrink the tumor. Becuase Braden's tumor is so mature, it may be hard to shrink. We have a CT scan on Monday and we are hoping that this will give us some answers to help us make our decission. Our hope is that the tumor has shrunk on its own! We continue to pray the God will give us an answer Loud and Clear so that we know which path to take.
We also found out that St. Jude does not accept patients who have already had treatment elsewhere. They do however give advise to doctors ,after looking over Braden's scans and records, St. Jude advises to do intense chemo along with CHOP and New York.

Jessica's Facebook Post Today

I found out the decision of St. Jude yesterday, they say intense chemo just like Philadelphia and NewYork. Braden's oncologist here at Scottishrite is still on the fence about treating B that way because B does not act like a stage four cancer patient. He had tons of energy and acts like a normal two year old:) with intense chemo comes stem cell transplants, and antibody therapy and a lot of sickness!!! We will talk further tomorrow when we meet with the surgeon at Scottishrite. Our doctor has also suggested that we take B to CHOP in philadelphia to see Dr. Mossei so that she can see him in person. She is the doc. That sets the protocols for kids with neuroblastoma. Lots of prayers needed that we make the right decision for Braden. I feel so much pressure that I'm not going to make the right decision. Why can't the doctors agree?? It would make things so much easier, but I am glad that our doctor is not rushing into things. He wants to do what is right for B, not just what it looks like on paper. We will be having a CT soon, hopefully next week to see what has happened during this waiting period. This should also give us some answers. If nothing has changed then this might tell us that we don't need intense Chemo and can just watch it. Please continue to pray with us'

A Post from Jess today on Facebook

Just an update. I just talked to St. Jude Children's hospital. Braden is being presented on the board at St. Jude on Wednesday to dicuss if he is a canidate. Please pray that these doctors will come up with a good plan for Braden. These past two months have been a mix of emotions. It has been wonderful to see Braden not have to go through treatments and just be a normal two year old, however I have been worried about what is happening inside his little body without any treatments. I am just putting my trust in God that he is healing our baby during this waiting period. Please continue to pray with us.

Jessica's FB post 7-5

Tomorrow we head to Eggleston for Braden to have a PET scan . This will determine what part of the tumor is benign and melignant and if there has been any change with Chemo. We pray for all benign tumor. We also pray that the contrast goes down easily. This time it has to mixed with water. It cannot be mixed with anything with sugar. Also, please say a prayer as my baby will have to be put a...sle...ep again. This is the most scary part of everything he has been through. I hate him having to be put to sleep. Please pray for a fast recovery from his sleep. Last time he was put to sleep his oxygen level did not go up well and they had to give him oxygen. Very scary!! We know that God will hold Braden in his hands tomorrow as He has done always. We are so thankful and blessed to have so many prayer warriors

Jessica's Post 6-28

Braden's CT is scheduled for 10am tomorrow. We have to be there at 7:30am for him to drink contrast and be put to sleep. Please pray that everything goes smoothly. Last time we had a hard time getting him to drink the contrast. Please pray that he drinks it well so that we can get the best pictures possible. I also ask for big prayers that the scans will be clear! Thank you

Jessica's Facebook post 6-27

So we were sent home from clinic with no chemo today. Dr. George( the oncologist) came in and said that he has been talking to doctors in NewYork and basically there have only been two cases in the last 25 years that are close to the way Braden's tumor is presenting. We are going to go ahead with scans hopefully this week and next and see where to go from there. They are not sure if chemo is helpi...ng because his tumor is so slow growing. We will probably have surgery, but we pray that the scans are clear and miraculously the tumor is gone! I will keep u updated when we know scans are scheduled. We are relying soley on God to heal Braden and we also pray for guidance for the doctors as they rack their brains to try and figure out treatment plans for Braden.

Jessica's FB update

This week has been an AMAZING week at home! Braden has done all the normal little boy things that a two year old would do in the summer. We have been to the park, swimming, and playing at home! We have had a blast enjoying time together. I wish I could do this all the time! It has been a nice break since his last chemo without having to return to the hospital for anything. We will return for Chemo on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next week. He will be receiving medicine that made him throw up for three days during his second cycle. We pray that he tolerates it well and we also pray that this will be his last cycle of chemo. Originally the oncologist said that he would do four rounds and then we would scan again to determine surgery or more chemo. I am asking for HUGE prayers this time, and know it can be done because all things are possible with GOD. We are praying that his tumor is mature and there is no more cancer. We are also praying that it has shrunk and his body will just take care of the rest. I have been very anxious lately thinking about the possibility of surgery. Basically, the position of the tumor would make surgery very risky and he would have to be cut open across his entire stomach, just the thought of my baby having to go through that gives me so much pain. We are praying that GOD will take care of the tumor because HE is our ultimate physician and Braden will continue to live a happy and healthy life. Thank you so much for praying this with us.

Zonked out after getting Benadryl before the blood transfusion

Recent Facebook updates

from Jessica
Praying for a little boy named Reece this morning. He had a hard day of treatments yesterday. I pray for a quick recovery for him and pray that they get to go on a much needed trip in September! They have had to stay within an hour of Scottishrite since November. I am counting my blessings this morning and praising God for all the good works he has done with our family!

Two days down. One to go! Tomorrow we return to clinic for an hour of chemo and a three hour blood transfusion. Please pray that again, Braden's body is receptive to the blood and he has no severe reactions. Another long day for us, but hopefully we will all have our toes in the sand in two days!!! Thank you for all your prayed.

From Sandra (Jessica's Mom)
Just finished round 2 of 3 chemo's today for Braden's 3rd round. Today was much shorter than yesterday as it was only 1 hour of chemo. Yesterday it was 1 hr of fluids followed by 2 chemo's (1 hour each) followed by 3 hours of fluids. I tell you that little man is one strong little boy. He did so much better with accessing his port compared to the last time. Cried just a little bit but pain wa...s no comparison to the last time. He is so BRAVE and is such a trooper. Tomorrow will be the last of 3rd round along with a blood transfusion. There is no where I would have rather been than at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital being there with little Braden and supporting my wonderful daughter Jessica. She really does deserve the"Mother of the Year" award. Praying that all goes well tomorrow and Brandon, Jessica, and Braden can join us on a well deserved family vacation. We all need a week of just being together and enjoying a week of relaxation. Please continue to pray for Braden, Jessica, Brandon and all of the family.

Recent updates from Jessica's Facebook page (Pray for Braden)

Friday
Braden continues to do well this week. Praise God! We are still awaiting the biopsy results, so hopefully we will hear something today. We continue to pray for good news.
For the first time since Braden was diagnosed with cancer, I have felt a little bit of normalcy in my life. Last Night Braden spent the night with Pa And BGE and Brandon and I had a long overdue date night. We ate seafood, our favorite and Brandon found a pearl in his last oyster! I believe that God was showing us a glimpse of hope during this journey of our lives.
Monday
We are being admitted to scottishrite. B 's ANC is low and they want to watch his foot to see how it is healing.
Today
We finally got up to our room at 1:30 am this morning. Braden then had a blood transfusion which started at 3am and lasted 3 hours. So, we are exhausted! His foot looks better this morning. They are going to keep us overnight again tonight to make sure his blood counts are going up like they should! All of this from a little blister! We know that our almighty God is in control! Just a little bump in the road,God telling us to slow down and seek him first!
So, the lymphnode in B's neck did come back as part of the tumor. It has metastasized to that one area. We pray that it does not spread any where else. As of now, the chemo plan has not changed. We will continue with two more cycles And then scans to determine either surgery or more chemo. The goal is for the next PET scan to be negative. These are our prayers as of now.

Monday, May 21, 2012

Urgent! Prayers needed now.

Braden is in surgery now to biopsy the lymphnode in his neck.  It is more serious than originally thought.  Please pray for guidance for the Doctors as they deal with this surprise.

These are Jessica's words:

They just took B back. They had to put him under general anesthesia. It is more in depth than we originally thought. The lymphnode is around major vessels, and the lungs so they need him completely still. Please pray for guidance for the doctors' hands.

Update:
He is in recovery and the doctor said everything went well and he got good tissue.

Sunday, May 20, 2012

Pray for Braden tomorrow, Monday 5-21

Tomorrow we return to Scottishrite early in the morning for Braden to have a CT/needle biopsy of the lymphnod in his neck. They are trying to rule out if this is realated to the tumor in his stomach. We feel hopeful that it will not be related. We continue to pray for miracles for our precious one.
" Believe on the evidence of miracles themselves. I tell you the truth. Anyone who has faith in ...Me; he will do even greater things, and I will do whatever you ask in my name: you may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it."
John 14: 11-14
Dear Lord,
I ask that you protect my angel from this terrible disease and heal his precious body. I pray that the lymphnode in his neck is nothing but a reactive lymphnode and has nothing to do with the tumor in his stomach. I pray that the chemo is working on his body and that the tumor will dissapear by your healing hands. With all these things, I ask in Your Name. AMEN!
Please pray this prayer with me for Braden.

A thank you from Jessica

What an AMAZING DAY we had yesterday. Thank you to the Dacula Family for coming out and supporting us. IT is AWESOME what everyone did for us. It was truly a blessing from GOD what happened yesterday. I pray that God will bless each and every one of you that came out to support us. WE LOVE YOU ALL!

The Benefit 5-19-12

Today was the Boozer BBQ Benefit.  These last 3-4 weeks have been a testimony of God's grace.  If Kimberly, Kim, Allison, or I talked or even thought about something we needed, God provided exactly what we needed. We started this thinking we'd feed about 200-300 people and have a nice little afternoon.  God had greater plans than us!!!  John from Heat Hog BBQ served about 540 plates of BBQ today.  We had an incredible turn out and it was so wonderful seeing everyone there today.  Together we raised $12,000.  I am still in awe of today.  Thank you for loving the Boozers the way you did.

I've got a few pictures from the day, not as much as I would of liked.  If you have some you'd like to share, please do.
Here's the Blessings for Braden Bracelet Booth.

Mr. Barry had the hayride going continuously all day!

We had six jumpies going, with five usually working at a time:)

Jessica FB Post 5.17.12

Long night in the Boozer household last night.  We got home from Chemo around 8:30pm.  We were all exhuasted.  Braden woke up around 11:30pm with vomiting.  So we were changing sheets and cleaning up.  I brought Braden in the bed with me while Daddy slept on the couch to give B more room to be comfortable.  What a great Daddy!! As I was just getting back to sleep B got sick again.  We gave him some Nausea medicine and he slept the rest of the night.  My poor baby is at home sick today and I have to go to work because I have to get my time in for insurance.  This is so frustrating. I just pray that he has a good day today.  I know he is in good hands because he is with Grandma.  Thank you for continued prayers.

Jessica's post on FB 5/13

Today we had to shave Braden's head.  His hair has been falling out everywhere.  I was hoping we could just let it thin out, but it was falling in his face, eyes, and food.  So. Brandon did the inevitable.  Braden had a hair cut Boozer style.  He started out on the motorcycle and then moved to the four wheeler for his big hair cut.  He did great.  I promised Brandon that I would not cry because he didn't want Braden to get upset.  Daddy even got a new hair cut too!  I will be shopping for some cute hats A.S.A.P.!

Wednesday we will return back to clinic for Braden's second round of Chemo.  He will be recieving two medications he has not had yet.  We pray that he will be receptive to these new medications and not get sick.  We pray he will continue to act the way he currently is.  We should also hear about when they have scheduled his biopsy of the lymphnode in his neck.  We will keep everyone posted.  Thank you for your continued prayers.

Jessica's FB post 5/10/12

Today we went for a PET scan . We should have results tomorrow. We also had B's blood levels checked again and they are low. We will go to scottishrite tomorrow for a blood transfusion. We pray that his body will accept the blood and he will not have a reaction. We pray for no fever so that we will not have to be admitted. The past two days, Braden has started loosing his hair. This has been really hard for me. I know it is just hair, but the thought of him loosing it and seeing it come out is just another symbol that our baby is sick. We are so blessed for all the prayers and support we are receiving. Please keep the prayers coming.

Jessica's FB post 5/9/12

Tomorrow we go for a PET scan to check the lymphnode in Braden's neck . Please pray that his port access will not be painful. He will be sedated so they will use his port for the nuclear injection and sedation. Braden continues to do well. His blood counts are really low. So we also pray that they will start to go up and he will not come into contact with any sickness.

Jessica FB update 5/4/12

Just got GREAT NEWS from the Oncologist. The MYC Gene that we were waiting from pathology is NORMAL!!! PRAISE GOD! OUR prayers are working. HE hears us and is answering them. The oncologist said that Braden was the talk at their meeting with the other Onclogist and surgeon from Eggleston. They agree that taking out the tumor is nearly impossible. They may only be able
to get out 25% of it ...and he may just live with the rest and go back for scans yearly. He also told us that from the sans the tumor part of the mass is almost gone!! He is hoping that chemo will stop the diarahea and then we can re-evlaute after 2 or 4 rounds. We are also going to have a PET scan soon to double check the lymphnode in his neck. The onlcologist said that he just thinks that it is a reactive node and not part of the tumor. The neck and the stomach do not look anything alike so he feels they are not connected. He said it would be very unusual to have metastic disease in the neck just by the look of it. So VERY GOOD NEWS TODAY! So our prayer now is that chemo will stop the diareha so that we can stop chemo. It already seems to be helping. His stools have been darker and more like normal diareaha, not just water. THANK YOU< THANK YOU for all your continued prayers.

5/2/12 Update from Jessica

Everything has continued to go well so far! Braden continues to act like his normal two year old self. I even returned to work yesterday. My plan is to work as many days that I can to finish out the school year. We will return to Clinic on May 16th for Bradens second cycle of chemo. It is only one day this time. We will go weekly to have his blood levels checked. We did have a little scare this pa...st Sunday. Bradens port looked red and irritated so I called the oncologist. He sent us to the ER. They accessed his port again which was just as painful as the first time! They ran antibiotic through it and put him on an oral antibiotic just to be sure that infection doesn't set in. His port already looks so much better.

Boozer BBQ Help

If anyone out there is interested one way you can help Jessica and Brandon, one of our current needs is volunteering to help with the BBQ Benefit on May 19th.  Here is a link to the volunteering website.  Just pick an event or an area where you feel you can help and we would greatly appreciate it.  Also, if you haven't RSVP-ed to the actual event please do so on the "Boozer BBQ Benefit" on Facebook.  If you aren't on Facebook, no worries, it's just a way for us to get an idea about how many people to expect.

Jessica's post today

The rest of this week has gone well. Braden continues to act like his normal self. He has complained a few times of his "magic button" aka "port" hurting him. And he has said that he is tired a few times. But, nothing seems to be slowing him down. He is still the same sweet boy he's always been. I took him to get his hair cut today and the hair dresser said that she knew a little boy that went thr...ough chemo. He was sweet before hand and a terror after. I just pray that God will keep his hands on Braden during his chemo treatments and that the medicine will not harm him. Why don't people think before they speak?? GOD has been so good to us!! I know that God has great plans for Braden. He is one special miracle for sure.

Update 4/26/12

Braden has his last round of chemo for this cycle today. It was not pleasant when they accssed his port. He was in a lot of pain. He has done a lot better with IVs. The whole point of the port is to make it less painful. I am just hoping that the reason it hurt so much is because it is still very tender since he just got it on Monday. I am praying that the next time they access his port it will go... much smoother. It is no fun having to hold down your screaming baby so that someone can hurt him. How do you explain that to a two year old? It just breaks my heart. On another note, we did get some peace of mind today. The oncologist told us that he is sure that Braden will be cured!!!!! PRAISE GOD! I just have to share that at the same moment we heard this news, my aunts prayer group was meeting and praying for Braden at this very moment. HOW AWESOME OUR God IS!!

NCR Sprint for Cancer

Thank you to everyone who participated! We had a large group of people out to run or walk in the NCR Spring for Cancer on Saturday. Even the volunteers noticed and asked about our group!!
This is some, not all of the people who came out to run or walk the race in support of Braden.  Brandon, Braden, and Jessica are in the front row.
